Release - Epic Crafting

BG Reference: https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Category:Escutcheons

Each phase requires certain tasks to be completed.

Brief

  • Players Build up the Craftsmanship of their shield by initiating Crystal Synthesis.
  • At each phase of the shield, once full charged, allowing your guild leader to examine the fully charged shield will grant the player a Crafting Crystal which is used in the upgrade.
  • Shield Craftmanship: Similar to crafting skill-ups, points are awarded to the player as they craft with the shield equipped. Feedback is provided via Chat messages.
  • Crafting Points: Similar to guild points, Crafting Points are used to buy materials needed to upgrade your shield from the Crafting Points NPC of your guild.
  • The quest will progress through multiple phases, and ultimately reward Unique Key Items as well as the completed Escutcheon and a Special Title.

Notes

Crafting your shield

  • Shields are all flagged as “Unbreakable” so material loss should be impossible.
  • A Word of Caution: DO NOT CRAFT YOUR SHIELD ON BOATS, AIRSHIPS, OR OTHER ZONE CHANGING OBJECTS
    • Doing so may lead to a loss of crafting materials.

Increasing the Craftsmanship of your shield

  • Increasing the Craftsmanship of your shield from 0 to 100 is accomplished by doing any main craft synthesis.
  • As you increase the Craftsmanship of your shield, messages will appear in the chat log.
  • You are not prohibited from Skilling up at the same time as increasing your Craftsmanship.
  • Creating Sets will also provide points towards capping the Craftsmanship of your shield. (see below)
  • The following conditions apply:
    • The Shield must be equipped when you initiate the craft (MOD Check)
    • The Shield will only increase Craftsmanship when you are on the appropriate phase of the quest
      • This means you cannot pre-charge your shield before speaking with your Guild Leader AND Mewk at each phase of the quest.
    • The skill of the Synthesis you choose (main or sub) must match the shield craft
      • E.g. No Craftsmanship increase on a Joiner’s Shield (Woodworking) by crafting Copper Ingots (Goldsmithing)
    • The difference between your skill vs the skill level of the craft plays an important factor in how much Craftsmanship you increase it by.
      • The closer the skill cap of the synth is to your actual craft skill, the greater the craftsmanship return is. (see table below).

Skill Gap to Points Received (Player Skill - Craft Cap)

Skill Range Tier NQ Points HQ Points
+10 -> -20 0 0.5 -> 1.0 0.9 -> 2.0
+30 -> +11 1 0.3 -> 0.6 0.6 -> 1.2
+50 -> +31 2 0.1 -> 0.3 0.2 -> 0.6
-> +50 3 0.1 -> 0.2 0.2 -> 0.4
  • Much like the NQ/HQ Tiering of synthesis recipes, the gap between your skill and the synthesis you are attempting will determine how much you increase the craftsmanship of your shield.

  • DEVELOPERS NOTES ONLY These values are currently hard coded in synthutils, but easily identified and adjusted.

Crafting Point Representatives

Guild NPC Name Zone and Position
Woodworking Luren Northern San d’Oria (E-3)

Gaining Crafting Points

  • Crafter Points are obtained via synthesizing Craft Sets using Analysis Crystals and trading them to the corresponding Crafting Point Representative.

  • Analysis Crystals may be obtained without building or expending Guild Points by the use of our custom shop system:

    • !shop 2
  • Recipes are built and will be gated beyind Way of the Key Item to prevent skill-up abuse early on.

  • Recipes are at the skill level of the resulting kit. As such, when used as an option to increase Craftsmanship of your shield, they will return values commiserate to the craft level of the set.

  • Higher level recipes will grant more Crafter Points than lower level recipes.

  • Delivering the requested sets will increase the stock of the corresponding Kits being sold by the Guild Point Representative.

    • This will provide additional options for budding crafters to obtain Skill-up Materials
  • Conversely, purchasing Kits from the Guild Point Representative will reduce stock instead

  • DEVELOPERS NOTES ONLY A lua based multiplier is available, values are currently coded at kit tier * 10 (10 - 90), which can be easily multiplied in globals/epiccrafting.lua

Purchasing Materials using Crafting Points

  • The Crafting Point representative keep tally of a players “Crafter Points” and provide materials for sale relevant only to the step of the quest that the player is currently on.
  • DEVELOPERS NOTES ONLY This is handled in the script using player vars.

Obtaining items which are not part of menus

  • The only items not obtainable through menus are the Apex Crystal and the Titanium Frame.
    • Titanium Frame: Conditional check, player needs to have both CP materials AND the Crafting Crystal, Guild leader will hand it to them.
    • Apex Crystal: Addressed through a trade with Synthesis Focuser II after the player finishes watching CS 431, they will receive a system message telling them to simply trade the crystal to the Synthesis Focuser II.

Deviation from Retail Behavior

Aside from the deviations detailed in the questline above, the shields themselves are slightly different.

Aspis/Ecu/Scutum

  • No negative augments are applied at any stage.

Shield

  • No negative augments are applied to the shield
  • The “Synthesis Speed” bonus is currently unimplemented.

Escutcheon

  • The “Synthesis Speed” bonus is currently unimplemented.
  • Enchantment “Artisanal Knowledge:
    • The only Bonus that is limited to the is the “Dec. likelihood of synthesis material loss -15%”
    • “Subskill +10 (Max 70)”: As we allow players to raise all crafts to 110, this is instead applied as a +2 bonus to all craft skills except the main craft (which is already +2 from the shield)
    • Similarly, Inc. rate of high-quality item synthesis success +3 is not limited to the main craft, thus granting a total bonus of +5 to High Quality Chance
