Retail Client Update - December 2020

30201103_3

With the change in chat, status, and character packets, it’s possible that some plugins, addons, and HD .DAT modifications may not operate properly after updating. If you have issues, it’s recommended to disable everything and load each one individually to find the culprit.

Tip

In addition to the client update, players who use XIView should update to the latest build or their client may crash.

Winter Celebration

  • UPDATE The winter cheer rewards for crafting have been cut in half from randomly 8 to 15 to 4 to 8.

Retail Client Update - November 2020

30201103_3

For a refresher on how to update your client, click here. In Check Files and/or when typing /ver in game, the new version number should be 30201103_3 or higher.

As most know, this caused numerous updates to the game.

  • New titles have been added.
  • The Ice Brand is now the Icicle Brand.
  • Message IDs have shifted in numerous zones.
  • NPCs have shifted in numerous zones.
  • The /assiste and /assistj channels will not crash clients, but are non-operational at this time while we review whether or not we even want to support them.

With the change in chat, status, and character packets, it’s possible that some plugins, addons, and HD .DAT modifications may not operate properly after updating. If you have issues, it’s recommended to disable everything and load each one individually to find the culprit.

Tip

In addition to the client update, players who use XIView should update to the latest build or their client may crash when expanding menus.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE Puppetmaster’s Overdrive now lasts the correct duration of 180s instead of 60s.

Retail Client DOWNGRADE - October 2020

Warning

If you are on the October 2020 release, 30201006, do not do anything.

Repeat: do not do anything if you already are on the October 2020 version.

After several days of development, testing, and trial and error, we are unable to move forward to the November 2020 client at this time. This client update includes a massive shift to packet size and locations as well as UI changes.

For those who have already upgraded (or are joining new), we are offering our members a downgrade patch to shift from November 2020 to October 2020 and have sealed the server to only the 30201006_1 client version.

Due to complications with so many different types of clients, November clients should wait until we can get the servers updated.

How can I tell what client version I have?

Type /ver in the in-game chat console. It should read 30201006_1.

What about plugins?

Right now, we haven’t heard any reports of plugins causing issues, but it’s possible that they could be expecting the new packet structure soon. This is likely more the case for Windower than Ashita.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE Added a new quality of life enhancement to the Dark Knight unlock quest with Chaosbringer that now outputs how many you’ve defeated.

Retail Client Update - October 2020

We’ve updated the client to the retail October 2020 version. This will require a mandatory client update for players.

30201006_1

For a refresher on how to update your client, click here. In Check Files and/or when typing /ver in game, the new version number should be 30201006_1 or higher.

Tip

In addition to the client update, players who use XIView should update to the latest build or their client may crash when expanding the chat dialog box.

Corsair Rolls Update

  • The Crooked Cards ability has been rewritten to be more in line with what it should provide. Crooked Cards now provides a +20% bonus to the effect, not a +20x multiplier to Phantom Roll. This is in line with the formula on BGWiki.

  • The Corsair rolls that modify TP gains are no longer affected by the global player_tp_multiplier. These were providing higher than expected levels of TP returns due to how the private server code handles TP manipulation. These have been updated to provide the non-multiplied values.

    • Misers’ Roll
    • Samurai Roll
    • Tactician’s Roll
  • Fold now removes the most recent Bust effect, in the event there are two active.

Heroics Update

  • The Tier 0 spawns in Escha Zi’Tah and Reisenjima have had their respawn cooldown reduced from 10 minutes and 5 minutes, respectively, to 1 minute allowing players to spawn Tier 0 mobs with much less farming and time spent.
  • The passive Regain effect on all Heroics mobs (including trash) has been removed. Some higher tier NMs retain their Regain effect.
  • The cooldowns of certain NMs scripted abilities have been increased.

Timers

Timer

  • BCNMs now have their proper “countdown” timers visible when players enter the arena.
  • These same timers have been added to Dynamis Divergence to make it easier to keep track how long players still have in the zone.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE Western Adoulin (!relax) has had its music changed up.
  • UPDATE Players can now acquire the Mistilteinn from Za’Dah Adamantking. This item is used to craft Ames.
  • UPDATE The 60% INT WSC empyrean modifier has been removed from Wildfire; it’s fTP remains 4.75 / 5.00 / 5.25.
  • UPDATE The logic for the automaton attachment Ice Maker has been revamped to provide MATT % bonuses in the magic calculations rather than attempting to add and subtract the values on each cast start/stop which was leading to overflows. The values have also been updated from 0%/20%/40%/60% to 0%/50%/75%/100% based on the number of active ice manuevers.
  • UPDATE Updated Clear Salve and Healing Salve to remove the proper effects. (Thanks Webjester!)
  • UPDATE Updated Assassin’s Charge to provide the correct effects. (Thanks Webjester!)

  • BUG Addressed an issue where Regiment Menders, Vivifiers, Medics, and Orishas would try to “Astral Flow” another mob, rather than their avatars. For now, these mobs simply do not have two hours (Astral Flows aren’t really that scary anyway on our server).
  • BUG Addressed an issue where the Fishing Guild’s GP rewards were offset incorrectly to the menu shown in the client.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where Div-e Sepid would not show the proper message when granting its key item.

  • BUG Addressed an issue where players could break the Bind effect on themselves by causing damage to themselves, such as through Devotion, Souleater, or Marytr.

Upstream Updates

  • UPDATE Several navmesh updates have been applied to provide better pathing and barriers within zones.
  • UPDATE The directional calculations have been overall updated to, well, be correct and address a potential exploit in positioning. For those interested in maths, here’s the details.

Tip

A few questions came up around stylelocking the Hoe over staves. It’s a scythe, so it only stylelocks over scythes. Dark Knights rejoice.. and garden!

    • At i119 III, Glanzfaust adds an additional +5% guarding and +30 evasion to Dodge.
    • These are latent abilities; Glanzfaust must remain equipped to gain these bonuses.

To account for several of the new 100+ recipes, the following items have changed. We’re continuing to review recipes and will be adding/updating items over the coming weeks.

Fall Harvest is Here!

Fall Harvest 2020

The annual Fall Harvest event has returned to Nocturnal Souls. Grab your sickles, pickaxes, and hatchets and find those rare harvests!

Changes for 2020

  • Harvest Protectors are now scaled to the player (player level +2-4 levels), not to the zone, but have the potential to drop more grenades.
  • The rare harvest rewards have been updated to include some of the newer non-Heroics augments and rare 100+ crafting materials.
  • The Harvest Mayhem BCNM’s “in season” rare slot rewards have been updated.
    • Slot 2: Now includes the male and female straw hats, used for Mog Gardening.
    • Slot 4: Now includes the hoe, used for Mog Gardening.
    • Slot 7: Has a low chance to drop a Regal Ring or Regal Necklace.
    • Slot 8: Has a low chance to drop a Resonance Ring or Nefarious Collar.
    • Slot 9: Has a low chance to drop a Hearty Earring, Beatific Shield, or Craftmaster’s Ring.
  • The bonuses for defeating leafkins have been updated to be crafting focused rather than a mix of combat and crafting to tie in closer to the theme of the event.

Dynamis Divergence

We’re continuing to research ways to improve performance in these zones. A few things of note in this week’s research.

  • Noisy plugins, such as lootwhore, duration, organizer, and other inventory management plugins send 1-2 packets PER SECOND to the server (then back to you) and to everyone near you. Until we dove into some of the testing, we weren’t quite aware HOW noisy these really were.
    • Disabling these can greatly improve performance in these zones where there’s a lot going on.
    • Any plugins that look for things that don’t exist, such as Job Points, are likely very noisy as they keep trying (Duration is an example of this).
  • We continue to see players using Gearswap with the Mio plugin that causes zones to crash. This is a known issue across private servers–likely looking for a packet or data point that doesn’t exist in our code. If your Gearswaps use Mio, please disable it–it’ll make your party mates happy.
    • Any players interested in moving from Windower+Gearswap to Ashita+Ashitacast, shout out in the #job_qa channel.
  • We continue to see some situations where zones crash when multiboxing, especially for players who are tri-boxing the same job and casting the same skills at the same time. We lifted the “no multiboxing in Dynamis” rule a while ago, but if instability continues, we may need to reinstate it.
    • For now, staggering casts, even by a second, can reduce the potential that the server “can’t tell” which character cast which spell and hard crashes.
  • Turning off visual effects in the Config menu can greatly improve FPS, especially for party and alliance members who are rapidly casting big, flashy abilities.
  • Turning off/reducing logging can also increase FPS as there’s less “flooding” in the logs.

Things we’re looking into further:

  • We’re currently evaluating how AOEs tag targets to make them more predictable. Currently, an AOE has a “bubble effect” of its size. If an AOE effect is in a 10y radius, it affects that on the X, Y, and Z axises which can cause some spells to hit the wrong targets in tight zones (aka DD Jeuno). We’re being careful in how we adjust this as it affects ALL AOEs from ALL sources, so prudence is key.
  • We’re currently looking at (or trying to) the navmeshes for the Dynamis zones. Prior, we’d just copied the ones from normal Dynamis into the place (zone layouts are the same), but digging deeper, the original Dynamis ones might be lacking too (if you have Blender or Unreal Engine experience toying with navmeshes, DM us!)

For updates:

  • In an effort to reduce packet load when pulling multiple statues and groups, statues have been updated to have a smaller AOE buff radius and buff every 30s instead of every 16s.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE Ethereal Squama now stacks to 12 as per retail.
  • BUG Riftdross now shows the proper message when getting drops in Reisenjima Henge.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where monsters never regained HP when disengaged/roaming has been addressed.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where Teugghia in Abyssea-Grauburg would not spawn.
  • BUG The recipe for the Moonbeam Ring has been updated to properly require a Moonbow Stone.
  • BUG The recipe for Bewitched Pumps now requires the proper boot material, not legs.

Upstream

  • UPDATE Updated the drop rate of lindwurm skins to align with retail (increased).
  • UPDATE De-offset all abilities to align with retail.
    • NOTE: Corsairs, this will remove your rolls. Use the !addallrolls command to get all of the available corsair rolls.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where claims were not properly relinquished when players left a zone has been fixed.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where some snolls were not properly aggro to players.

Enmity

After a great deal of testing, mathing out various formulas, and seeing the interplay between healers, tanks, damage dealers, and pets, we found several outliers in how enmity is handled by the server.

Reminder:

  • CE is cumulative enmity. This is a value that only decreases when you take damage from enemy attacks and continues to grow as combat continues.
  • VE is volatile enmity. This value spikes with each ability, weapon skill, and spell and then degrades each server tick.

Our current mindset is as follows:

  • Damage is not a primary way of holding aggro. It wasn’t before the rebalance either, but players did so much damage, that it was hard to tell.
  • Paladins and their enmity generation is a core facet and they have the tools necessary to generate enmity better than any other class.
  • Warriors, Dark Knights, and Samurai, and Blue Mages–all who have enmity generation tools–follow Paladins in hate generation, but have to work harder at it.
  • Cures, buffs, and general job abilities should have a base enmity, but should be normalized outside of ‘aggro generation’ abilities. e.g. Threnody shouldn’t be equal to 3-4 weapon skills.

General Updates

  • The overall cap for enmity has been raised from 30,000 to 100,000 making it much more difficult to ‘cap’ your enmity values.
  • The enmity bonus cap has been increased from 200% to 300% so that our 300% bonus to Crusade and Futae actually work correctly.
  • Addressed an issue where Cure V, Cure VI, and Curaga V were not using their fixed enmity values.

Formula Updates

Damage Formulas

Damage generates a variable amount of CE and VE based on the amount of damage done. This applies to weaponskills, spells, and auto attacks.

  • CE = 0.75 / Level Based Enmity * Damage
  • VE = 2.0 / Level Based Enmity * Damage

For clarity, at level 99, the “Level Based Enmity” formula is: 99 * 31 / 50 + 6 or 67.

Example: A non-enmity modified weapon skill (aka not Atonement or Wildfire) doing 20,000 damage will generate 223 CE and 597 VE.

Cure Formulas

There are two types of Cure formulas, one for Cure to Cure IV and one for Cure V, Cure VI, and Curaga V. It’s assumed SquareEnix did this to provide a bonus to White Mages in managing enmity for their higher end cures.

For Cure to Cure IV and Curaga to Curaga IV:

  • CE = 2.5 / Level Based Enmity * Cure Amount * Enmity Bonus/Reduction * Tranquil Heart Reduction
  • VE = 60 / Level Based Enmity * Cure Amount * Enmity Bonus/Reduction * Tranquil Heart Reduction

For clarity, at level 99, the “Level Based Enmity” formula is: 40 + (99 - 50) * 0.6 or 69.

For CE, our base is 2.5, the retail base is 40. For VE, our base is 60, the retail base is 240.

Example: A Cure IV amount of 1530 with 0.85 enmity modifier, 0.77 tranquil heart modifier generates 36 CE and 870 VE.

For Cure V, Cure VI, and Curaga V:

  • CE = 100 * Enmity Bonus/Reduction * Tranquil Heart Reduction
  • VE = 700 * Enmity Bonus/Reduction * Tranquil Heart Reduction

For CE, our base is 100; the retail base is 400. For VE, our values align with retail.

Example: A Cure V of any amount with 0.85 enmity modifier, 0.77 tranquil heart modifier generates 65 CE and 458 VE.

Abilities and Spells

Some abilities and spells have fixed enmity values. Buffs, debuffs, etc. generate their own enmity regardless of damage.

These have been normalized in the following categories:

  • Buffs cast on players, including songs and most ninjutsu, have a fixed enmity of 1 CE and 100 VE.
  • Debuffs cast on enemies, including songs, most ninjutsu, have a fixed enmity of 1 CE and 175 VE.
  • Blue Magic, especially those used to build ’tanking’ builds, have remained mostly per retail. Jettatura, Exuviation, Actinic Burst, and such continue to be excellent tools to build blue mage tanks.
  • Ninjutsu has incrementally more enmity the higher in tier with Ni and San having 20/40 CE and 200/300 VE. In addition, higher tiers of Utsusemi provides more enmity allowing Ninjas to rotate their elemental wheel in addition to their other tools to maintain aggro.

For abilities, the following updates have been made:

  • Strategems’ enmity has been reduced from 1111 CE and 1111 VE to 10 CE and 10 VE.
  • Meditate’s enmity has been reduced from 360 CE and 960 VE to 160 CE and 100 VE.
  • Swordplay’s enmity has been reduced from 160 CE and 300 VE to 3 CE and 10 VE.
  • Majesty’s enmity has been increased from 100 CE and 100 VE to 320 CE and 900 VE.
Enmity Decay

CE and VE both decay over time, but in different ways. CE decays when a player takes damage from the target it has enmity with, such as a monster coming over and smacking a mage after a big spell. VE decays over time at each server tick.

In our testing, this was the primary cause of a lot of our trouble–enmity was decaying so quickly for damage dealers that they’d actually gain NEGATIVE CE and VE per attack round.

  • CE Reduction = -400 * Damage / Player Max HP * Enmity Loss Reduction

For CE, our base is -400; the retail base is -1600.

Example: A player with 4500 HP taking 350 damage would lose 31 CE for that hit.

  • VE Reduction = 200 / 2.5

For VE, our base is 200; for retail the base is 360.

Example: A player loses, on average, 144 VE per server tick (2.5 seconds).

Note

In summary, there’s a lot to enmity and we’ll continue monitoring it and testing as we gather feedback from players. To aid in transparency, we’ll be adding a few pages to the Members Portal soon allowing players to see the ‘stats’ of abilities and spells so they can work out their own calculations.

Fishing Updates

  • Players can now craft and use the Fisherman’s Feast food item. This grants +5 to fishing skill.
  • Players can now speak with Chenon to see the winners of yesterday’s fishing contest.
  • Players can no longer enter fish into the fishing contest that lack a length and weight.
  • Panja-Nanja has been updated to provide the proper fishing synthesis support and guild information.
  • The fishing guilds on the ferry ships have been removed and should reflect as so on the Members Portal.
  • Gugru Tuna can now be purchased from the Fishing Guild shops in Selbina and Bibiki Bay.

Divergence Updates

  • The Sleep, Silence, and Paralyze resists for all encounters have been reduced.
  • Obstratix’s Pleiades Ray has had its potency reduced and the duration of the debuffs reduced.
  • Disjointed Mithra’s TP gain and defensive stats have been slightly reduced.
  • Disjointed Mithra’s Shadows have been redesigned to be more manageable and flimsy. They are still powerful attackers and should be taken down immediately. Pro Tip: Barfira for their 2 hour.
  • Back Swish has been removed from the Disjointed Mithra’s (and Shadow) ability rotation.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE Grauberg Lettuce has been added to the Wandering Saplings of Grauberg.

  • UPDATE Items with Subtle Blow II have been updated to reflect SB II instead of SB. This includes Dagon Breastplate, Sherida Earring, Niqmaddu Ring, Moonbow Belt/+1.
  • UPDATE Players can now craft the Echidna’s Bow, Moonbeam Cape, Comaa Belt, and Moonbow Belt.
  • UPDATE Several BCNMs have had their fastest timers reset from early testing days to let new players set the timers (the Daily 99 is up for grabs!).
  • BUG (hotfix) All of the ‘bottles of’ temporary items found in caskets have been updated/verified to work; the server lockup condition for two of them has been resolved.
  • BUG Sliced Bluetail and Ramen Noodles now produce their proper NQ and HQ quantities.
  • BUG The Porter Moogles will no longer try to dupe the items that you’ve submitted with storage slips.
  • BUG Diffusion’s merit check for several abilities has been fixed; it was not properly adding the duration bonus. This affected Barrier Tusk, Carcharian Verve, Erratic Flutter, Fantod, Harden Shell, Magic Barrier, and Nature’s Meditation.
  • BUG Foe Sirvente no longer tries to check for a merit that no longer exists since the retail Bard updates earlier this year.
  • BUG Fixed a typo in the Disjointed’s demon medal dialog where it explains where to pickup the medals.

Upstream

  • UPDATE Update Conquests and Guilds to use JST instead of CDT as, after research, it appears that these values are hard coded into the client which is causing guild requests and timers to not properly align. This should resolve several issues where you should be able to proceed with a guild, but it’s telling you the wrong thing or accepting the wrong item. We’ll continue to monitor this update from Topaz.

Fishing Updates

  • The quest, The Sand Charm, has been updated to be available without the need to do the pirate ship quests. Details can be found here.
  • DHoffryn’s Fishing Guide has had the quest area cleaned up.
  • The 50x gil multiplier has been removed from The Rivalry moat carp quest turn-in.
  • Fishing guild fish have been removed from the auction house to allow players to trade amongst each other and address an issue where fish sold from the AH would not properly work for guild point trade-ins (wrong ID number).
  • Fishing guild fish for guild points have been updated to accept the correct ID of some fish.
    • NOTE: Players who have purchased fish from the auction house PRIOR to this update likely have the wrong fish for the quests.
  • Addressed a typo (which shouldn’t have had any consequence) in the guild fishing checks (guild_Fishing -> guild_fishing).
  • The fishing guilds no longer sell moat carp.

Dynamis Divergence

After speaking with and reading through various feedback posts, Dynamis Divergence has undergone several updates.

In general, players leaned very heavily that Divergence had gotten too easy–too soft–for the rewards players could receive from the zone. In addition, several groups indicated that they split their time in the zone–opting to run solo during the week to collect patterns and chapters, then group up with their linkshell on weekends to spam the bosses.

Note

Testing and tuning was done by a variety of jobs using i119 III mythic weapons, i119 reforged artifact +3 (the assumption that players have completed Reisenjima Henge), and a variety of augments from tiers 1, 2, and 3 (assuming unlocking Heroics, but not proceeding in it). All tests were performed by defeating all tethers before engaging the Disjointed.

  • The ‘zone trash’ mobs (including Commanders) have had most of their custom modifiers removed, similar to what we did in Reisenjima Henge. This reduces the challenge of the trash to be more aligned with ‘soloing’ players.
  • The sub boss (statues), zone boss, and Disjointed have had their accuracy, evasion, and attack (magic and physical) modifiers increased to pose more of a threat (rather than hitting for 0-10). This increases the challenge of zone bosses to be more aligned with ‘grouping’ players.
  • The Volte encounters have had their accuracy, evasion, and attack (magic and physical) modifiers increased to pose more of a threat during the Disjointed fights.
  • The Volte encounters now spawn at 80%, 60%, and 30% HP increments for the Disjointed.
  • The petrify resistance of zone trash and some adds has been greatly reduced to make it a viable option to sleep/lullaby.
  • Several encounters that were lacking subjobs now have them (and Wyverns are no longer also dragoons 😄).

Atonement

After a week of constant feedback from every direction, we’ve decided to remove our custom modifications to Atonement and revert it back to retail. Originally, we customized Atonement to give paladin’s a potent weaponskill, but since the rebalance, the other weaponskills in their arsenal are already potent and Atonement doesn’t need to be more than it should be–an enmity tool.

  • Atonement’s damage is now capped at level (or item level) x 10, or for a maximum damage of 1190.
  • Atonement’s CE and VE values are locked at at 150/1200.
    • With Crusade active, this is equal to about 20 50k nukes from a black mage (CE) and 2-3 provokes (VE). Aggro should never be a problem for a Paladin using this weaponskill.
  • Atonement is still a breath-based weaponskill that can pierce most all immunity and defense phases, allowing Paladins to use it to sustain enmity during these fights.
  • Paladins still have a potent breath attack weaponskill that is HP based in Spirits Within. This weaponskill is unmodified.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE (hotfix) The potency of the amnesia effect from Colossal Slam (Briareus) and Lethe Arrows (Carabosse) has been reduced.
  • UPDATE (hotfix) Attempting an item augmentation without the sufficient rank now provides a clearer error message.
  • UPDATE (hotfix) Avatars now gain a slight enmity boost for main-job summoners. This does not compensate for overall enmity. Players looking to use avatars to hold AOE enmity should invest in +Enmity gear such as Convoker’s Spats/Bracers and the Shomonjijoe.
  • UPDATE The set bonuses for the voidwatch gear sets have been added: Outrider, Wayfayer, and Espial.
  • UPDATE Approximately 3700 mob groups have been updated to respawn at 300s, down from 330s, 660s, and 954s to align to retail (tl;dr: faster respawns for lots of leveling mobs).
  • UPDATE Storage Slip 19 now includes several missing items. (thanks Webjester)
  • UPDATE The VoidWatch teleporter for Aello has been shifted to a better location.
  • UPDATE Heavy metal has been added an empyrean drop to the eBCNM - Chloris.
  • UPDATE Monster encounters using our custom spawnAdds functionality now spawns those adds at the primary NM, not around the player. This is most noticeable in Dynamis Divergence and our custom content.
  • UPDATE Players can now acquire Cehuetzi Ice Shards from Mining tier 4 and Flotsam in Mog Gardening.
  • UPDATE Players can now acquire Bamboo Shoots from Logging tier 4 in Mog Gardening.
  • UPDATE Gestalt (Escha Zi’tah) has had its physical and ranged damage reductions reduced.
  • UPDATE Breezy, in the merit BCNM In The Breeze, no longer uses Geotic Breath when activating its two hour ability.
  • UPDATE Arena Champion, in the merit BCNM Arena Champions, has had his damage reduction reduced.
  • BUG (hotfix) Disjointed Mithra’s personal loot demon medals have been fixed.
  • BUG (hotfix) Malleator Maurok’s adds now despawn when Maurok despawns in the event of a wipe.
  • BUG (hotfix) Fjalar’s adds now despawn when Fjalar despawns in the event of a wipe.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where some NPC trade transactions would ’lock’ an item and require the player to zone has been fixed.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where magic’s dINT comparison could be a partial number due to our custom INT bonuses (e.g, 1.9) and fall outside of the gates for base damage, resulting in 0 damage against some monsters.
  • BUG Thief’s Collaborator’s range has been updated from 20.0y to 12.6y.
  • BUG Dancer’s Curing Waltz V’s animation has been updated.
  • BUG Flume Belt +1’s vitality modifier has been added.
  • BUG Update wyrms to force “too high” to be removed when changing stances. This might cause them to ’land’ twice, but seems to properly remove the effect.

Upstream

  • UPDATE The quest, A Sentry’s Peril, has been updated to provide the correct dialog.
  • BUG The quest, The Crimson Orb, has had an update to properly set the cutscene in Davoi.
  • BUG The message for recharging EXP rings has been updated to align with retail.
  • BUG The placeholder for the Antican Praefectus has been corrected.
  • BUG Player and mount movement speeds have been separated and augments/item modifiers for MOVE no longer apply to mounts.
    • We have inherited the default “80” movement speed for mounts. A movement speed modifier exists that we’re considering adding to various quest rewards as a permanent buff.
    • Our enhanced player movement speed of 50+30 (or 80) remains, plus any additional movement speed enhancements.

Crafting To 110

expert crafting is here

Players can now complete the Expert rank crafting challenges and level their crafts from 100 to 110.

Keep in mind that some of our recipes are custom, so be sure to use your guild’s recipe list from the Synthesis Recipes on the Members Portal.

As with retail, these crafts will require players to sign their craft with HQ crystals and have the necessary key items for their respective guild to complete the rank up requirements.

Thanks to Webjester for your hard work with this project!

Fishing Is Here!

fishing is here

Players can now participate in the Fishing hobby, level it to Expert rank, catch legendary fish, and complete many of the fishing quests.

Fishing, locations, and gear are wired up and ready for some relaxing fishing. Be sure to check out the full guide for details on how to get started with fishing.

Tip

In addition, be sure to stop by Chenon at the Fishing Guild in Selbina for the daily fishing competition for gil and great prizes.

Thanks to DHoffryn for your hard work with this project!

Balance Updates

  • UPDATE Avatars now gain a passive buff for each level past 99 that increases magic accuracy, accuracy, defense, and slight bonuses to magic attack and physical attack. Avatars also gain a slight regain bonus for each level above 99.
  • UPDATE The cooldown of Summoner’s Apogee has been reduced to 60s (30s with our 50% recast duration).
  • UPDATE The potency of Bard threnody enspells has been slightly increased.

Reisenjima Henge

Reisenjima Henge has been rescaled to better align to new players coming into the zone. The scaling focuses on the assumption that players have acquired their i119 III Mythic weapon and are wearing +1 and +2 reforged armors with basic augments and accessories.

  • Encounter levels normalized to be “even match” to “very tough” depending on the tier of the encounter.
  • Encounters in tier 6 and the upcoming gauntlet encounters will remain their current difficulty and/or harder and are targeted towards highly geared soloers or party play.
  • Encounter jobs have been normalized and/or better aligned, such as The Avatars properly being black mages, Fenrir being a dark knight, etc.
  • Encounters missing subjobs have had them added.
  • Some encounter mechanics have been tweaked to be less potent, while others–explicitly those with in-chat callouts and dialog–have been left the same.
  • Medals for some encounters have been slightly increased based on difficulty.

New Abilities Added

Ten new abilities have been added, included some of the more potent level 96 skills.

  • Summoner - Astral Conduit (main job only)
    • Reduces blood pact delay (an option for those who don’t want to heavily gear for BP Delay reduction).
  • White Mage - Asylum (main job only)
    • Adds a potent resistance to all status effects, including Amnesia, for a short duration.
  • Ranger - Bounty Shot (main job only)
    • Adds a temporary enchantment (10s) that grants TH+2 to all targets they tag.
  • Ranger - Overkill (main job only)
    • Increases double shot rate to 100% and triple attack rate by 33% for a short duration.
  • Dancer - Climactic Flourish
    • Adds critical hit rate based on steps consumed and critical hit damage based on 10% of the player’s total CHR.
    • This buff does not wear on first hit, but sustains for the duration.
  • Dancer - Striking Flourish
    • Adds double attack rate based on steps consumed and double attack damage bonus based on 10% of the player’s total CHR.
    • This buff does not wear on first hit, but sustains for the duration.
  • Dancer - Ternary Flourish
    • Adds 15% triple attack rate at 3 steps.
    • This buff does not wear on first hit, but sustains for the duration.
  • Bard - Clarion Call
    • Allows the bard to sustain one additional song for a short duration (2m).
    • This ability has been left open to subjobs to make /BRD a more viable option.
  • Scholar - Caper Emissarius (main job only)
    • Transfers scholar’s cumulative and volatile enmity to the targeted player.
  • Corsair - Crooked Cards (main job only)
    • Grants the corsair a +20% bonus to phantom rolls.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE Dhrome Khimaria’s magic attack bonus reduced to be in line with other Khimaria’s of similar level.
  • UPDATE The formula for enmity calculations back to NocSouls standards to address an issue where players could too easily cap cumulative enmity.
  • UPDATE The formula for spell interrupt calculations have been updated to be more forgiving for players fighting targets above their level. The “102%” maximum of retail still does not apply, as our monster levels are significantly higher than retail for Heroics content, but for entry content, players should find it much easier to reach that sweet spot for interruption rate reduction.
  • UPDATE New stats have been added to !stats and !petstats.
  • BUG Address the lack of display cap to Ifrit’s Flaming Crush so it can’t overflow past 99999.
  • BUG A check for calculating enhancing skill for barmagic has been updated to properly include item modifiers and augments.
  • BUG A bug causing the casket prowess to grant 440% bonus instead of 44% bonus has been fixed.
  • BUG Updated the Gelatinous Ring +1 to remove the misplaced wyvern modifiers.

Upstream

  • UPDATE Several exploits around NPC shop usage have been patched and triggers added to report players who attempt them.

Retail Client Update - September 2020

We’ve updated the client to the retail September 2020 version. This will require a mandatory client update for players.

v30200731_2

For a refresher on how to update your client, click here. In Check Files and/or when typing /ver in game, the new version number should be 30200904_2 or higher.

We are moving forward with this client release to address the shift in how chat packets are handled that is incompatible with prior clients.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE Addressed how “additional effects” were applied to players to remove the monster level difference added to the duration. This strays from retail, however, with our higher level targets, makes these effects more manageable.
  • UPDATE Updated the formula for Spell Interruption Rate to account for the item level of the player, not just their main job. At i119, this adds 20 more levels to the level check to potentially stop an interrupt.
  • UPDATE Updated the pet heal from Garland of Bliss to not require the !togglebpws to be disabled. It should now heal no matter what setting you’re using.
  • UPDATE Reduced the damage of Eagle Eye Shot for most non-NMs.
  • UPDATE Added Behemoth Meat as a potential drop to all King Behemoths, Hadhayosh, Sarsaok, and Urmahlullu.
  • UPDATE Rararoon has been added to Nashmau (by Yoyoroon) to sell high level PUP attachments. These are attachments that were previously available on the AH through the Auctioneer.
  • UPDATE NINJUTSU_POWER has been increased from 1.30x to 1.45x.
  • UPDATE STONESKIN_CAP has been increased from 3500 to 4000 (and still better than the 350 cap on retail).
  • BUG Disabled the Fall Harvest event–September snuck up, this shouldn’t start until October.
  • BUG Updated Diabolos’ Cacodemonia to have an 18y activation range and 6y AOE radius, rather than a 6y activation range.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where pet regens were not properly activating or showing up in !petstats.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where merit BPs had a higher base damage than anticipated and were not properly accounting for merit bonus, only TP BONUS.

Reisenjima Henge

  • UPDATE Removed the ALWAYS_AGGRO flag and added a 180s despawn timer to inactive/unclaimed monsters in the zone to prevent players from being caught unaware/unready when activating a fight.
  • UPDATE The Land Kings and The Avatars now spawn as a gauntlet–one mob at a time. Loot is now on the final fight in those encounters.
  • UPDATE The Avatars, as they’re fought individually, now have their proper TP attacks.
  • UPDATE Reduced Arch-Omega’s counter rate from 30% to 10%.
  • UPDATE The Ark Angels pets no longer have 100% HP bonus.
  • UPDATE Medals rewarded by some multi-target encounters have been increased.
  • UPDATE Hades’ Bane of Tartarus no longer inflicts instant KO as a gaze attack, but dispels buffs and inflicts weakness similar to retail.
  • UPDATE Nihility has been added as a potential from from Ulr of Dark (style lock item).
  • UPDATE The Shadow Emperor is now properly called Shadow Emperor on the Members Portal.
  • UPDATE The Moogle Dummy XL in !craft has been disabled while we adjust scaling for Reisenjima Henge–it’s no longer a good representation of the zone.

Upstream

  • BUG Addressed an issue with Sedal-Godjal, Rukususu, and Tosuka-Porika as part of Windurst 8-2’s storyline where they would not properly update some steps if players did it out of order.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where Geyser Lizard would spawn at incorrect locations.
  • BUG Updated Sunsand to only allow one-pickup per zone-in.

9 September

Day 2 of the Great Rebalancing

In today’s update, we addressed several painpoints mentioned by players as well as a few bugs.

Scaling

  • UPDATE Overall base CURE_POWER updated from 1.75 to 1.95 to assist players using healing-based subjobs and blue magic and lacking the MND and CURE_POTENCY mods found on white mage gear.
  • UPDATE Avatar VIT, MND, INT, all accuracies, and all defenses have been slightly increased. Their max hp boost has been updated to be 1:1 to level and account for being higher than 99, such as through sachets. e.g. an avatar at level 122 has 122% more HP.
  • UPDATE Reduced the base zone scaling modifiers for Reisenjima Henge’s encounters. Affected attributes include HP, DEX, VIT, INT, Sleep resistance, and Silence resistance. Lower VIT and INT should allow players to more easily inflict physical and magical damage and reduce incoming magical damage.
  • UPDATE Open-world defense stats (non-NM) have been slightly reduced. This directly affects DEF, not attributes. This applies to all zones except Heroics zones such as Escha and Reisenjima.
  • UPDATE Reduced Shinryu’s DEF and MDEF by 35%.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE The base duration of enstun effects have been reduced to 1s from 5s to act as a hard interrupt, not a long-term stun.
  • UPDATE The distance for auto targeting has been increased to compensate for the smaller hitboxes and ranges of Tarutarus. #potatoproblems
  • UPDATE Reduced Arch-Omega’s counter rate from 35% to 15%.
  • BUG Addressed an issue causing guild patterns to reset every game day, rather than every real life day.

8 September

Day 1 of the Great Rebalancing

Thank you everyone for your fantastic feedback on the rebalance. We’re working through each case, speaking with members, and pulling them into our beta server for additional testing.

That said, our current focus is addressing concerns with solo and new player scaling.

We’ll be monitoring each of these changes–ensuring we don’t err too far the other direction too of ’too easy’.

To give context, our testing consisted of players in unaugmented, +1 and +2 artifact and a mythic weapon. We tested various classes across the board. Solo testing did include players having a support subjob, such as Red Mage.

  • The player TP multiplier has been slightly increased to 2.80 from 2.15 to give a smoother multi-attack TP return for 2h players.
  • The NM and Mob HP multipliers have been slightly reduced from 5.40 and 4.50 to 5.00 and 3.35.
  • The NM and Mob Stat multipliers have been slightly reduced from 4.25 and 2.25 to 3.90 and 1.95.
  • The modifiers in Reisenjima Henge have been adjusted to reduce some magical resistances, reduce magical accuracy on some skills, and increase timers on many two hour abilities to account for a bit longer fight.

In addition to scaling, the following updates have been made:

  • To align with the increased time and challenge, the base amount of medals awarded in Reisenjima Henge has been increased and higher tiers of fights now reward more medals.
  • The empyrean ranged weapons should properly grant their bonuses.
  • Wildfire’s been granted an additional Burn effect, similar to the effect we added to Rudra’s.
  • Avatars now have a slightly higher magic defense and magic evasion.
  • Avatars now have a slightly higher level scaled HP bonus.

The Great Rebalancing 2020

Tip

There’s a LOT of information here. We’ll be updating respective pages on the wiki, the New Players Guide, the #faq channel in Discord, and other information sources over the next few days to reflect all of thse changes.

As we look at adding more content, more gear, and more augments, the “race to 99999” has become a bit moot. Many players, while they are hitting 99999, are really being hard capped due to limitations in the private server code and are doing far more damage than that–upwards of 250-500k per hit. Some players see this taper off once they reach Heroics zones, but it is increasingly difficult to provide ample challenge when the ’norm’ is doing max damage.

Over the pat few months, we’ve taken apart every job, every tier of content and encounter, and reevaluated both how the private server code works in relation to retail behaviors and to our own mindset of playstyle.

Much of our testing revolved less on the numbers and more on the time and effort required–where challenge should remain about the same for almost all content types; however, there’s more room for some jobs to shine and more advantegous tactical play.

Here’s a few high level examples of aspects we reviewed:

  • TP generation will need to be reconsidered when for solo and group play.
    • Samurai’s TP generation, due to the lower TP rates, has regained its glory–a much desired change by many players who felt the increased TP rates took away its shine.
    • Abilities and spells that increase TP generate now have added value, such as SCH’s Adloquium.
  • Auto attack damage (white damage), based on how much multi-strike a player has, can now be a significant portion of their damage output. This is critical for dual wielders and hand-to-hand jobs.
  • Players will now see more growth through added gear, buffs, and debuffs. Bard songs, corsair rolls, Impact, Absorb-*, and weaponskill-based debuffs will play a larger role in overall combat.
  • Certain meta configurations and brute force mechanics will be less useful and predictable.
  • Lower scaling of monster stats should find that monsters are less likely to “one shot” players–at least until it’s intentional due to mechanics (such as in Heroics zones), however, players are also less likely to “one shot” some mobs.
  • Base stats hold a much higher value–apparent in both gear upgrades as well as buffs, debuffs, Heroics bonuses, and NewGame+ levels.
  • The initial leveling experience (pre-augments, pre-gear) for some jobs may be a bit rougher–soloing IT++ without any gear on at all will be a bit more challenging.
    • We’re working on some new storyline content for players to help compensate for this–coming soon!
  • Barriers to entry for some scaling differences, especially in Reisenjima Henge, allows players an easier transition to that content while some higher level content may prove more challenging.

With that, let’s begin the Great Rebalancing of 2020!

Stats/Attributes

  • The multiplier for player stats (player_stat_multiplier) has been adjusted from 5.0x to 2.50x.
  • The multiplier for normal mob stats (mob_stat_multiplier) has been adjusted from 3.5x to 2.50x.
  • The multiplier for notorious monster stats (nm_stat_multiplier) has been adjusted from 4.5x to 4.25x.
    • The Topaz hard-coded server multipler of 1.5x for NMs has been removed and merged into the base config settings. Prior to this change it was 4.5x + 1.5x. Merging the settings makes our scaling intent clearer for future enhancements. See here for more information.

HP/MP

  • The multiplier for player HP (player_hp_multiplier) has been adjusted from 4.0x to 3.0x.
  • The multiplier for player MP (player_mp_multiplier) has been adjusted from 3.5x to 2.5x.
  • The multiplier for normal mob HP (mob_hp_multiplier) has been adjusted from 3.5x to 4.5x.
  • The multiplier for notorious monster HP (nm_hp_multiplier) has been adjusted from 4.75x to 5.40x.
    • The hard-coded server multipler of 1.5x for NMs has been removed and merged into the base config settings. Prior to this change, it was 4.75x +1.5x. Merging the settings makes our scaling intent clearer for future enhancements. See here for more information.
  • The multiplier for notorious monster HP (nm_mp_multiplier) has been adjusted from 2.0x to 3.00x.
    • The hard-coded server multipler of 1.5x for NMs has been removed and merged into the base config settings. Prior to this change, it was 2.0x + 1.5x. Merging the settings makes our scaling intent clearer for future enhancements. See here for more information.

TP

  • The multiplier for player TP (player_tp_multiplier) has been adjusted from 4.0x to 2.15x.
  • The multiplier for mob (all) TP (mob_tp_multiplier) has been adjusted from 1.5x to 1.00x.

General Combat

  • The logic for auto attack ’targeting’ has been updated. Targeting no longer requires players to be with a small range in front of the target and direct melee distance. Targeting now relies more on the enmity list and can target mobs behind the player if none are available in front.
  • If mobs exist on the enmity list, but cannot be auto targeted and engaged, the next engage delay is set to 0 for a short time.
  • Nation’s Signet (!signet) now applies to players no matter the level of their target (previously only applied if your target was a higher level than you).

Powers

  • CURE_POWER (cure magic) has been reduced from 3.0x to 1.75x due to the reduction in HP.
  • ELEMENTAL_POWER (elemental magic) has been reduced from 2.0x to 1.75x.

  • BLUE_POWER (blue magic) is unchanged.
  • DARK_POWER (dark magic) is unchanged.
  • WEAPON_SKILL_POWER (weaponskill multiplier) has been split into three different types for better granular control.
    • MELEE_WS_POWER has been set to 1.150x (from 1.5x).
    • RANGED_WS_POWER has been set to 1.375x (from 1.5x).

  • STONESKIN_CAP has been reduced from 6500 to 3500.

Unlocks and Skills

  • Players can now acquire the relic weaponskills without needing to have the relic weapon equipped.
    • NOTE: Similar to the mythic weapons, relic weapons provide a +30% damage bonus to their weaponskills. Using the weaponskills without these weapons will reduce their damage output.
  • Players can use relic weaponskills as both the main and subjob of the jobs listed on the relic weapons.
  • The unlock skill levels for weaponskills have changed.

Players can now trade in their completed REMA ranged weapons to Oboro and receive an augmentable version of the weapon and an ammo quiver/pouch. The belts/quivers have no stats and provides TWO stacks of 99 ammo on use. This applies to:

  • Gastraphetes
  • Armageddon
  • Gandiva
  • Death Penalty
  • Yoichinoyumi
  • Annihilator

Enmity

  • Cummulative and Volatile Enmity values for Cure-based magic has been increased by 20%, or to ~40% of retail’s values.

Magic

  • The formulas to calculate magic attack to magic defense have been normalized and scaled better to ramp up and down accordingly. This addresses issues where player’s magic defense bonus could go into the negatives due to debuffs (or poor gearing) and they’d take less damage. See here for more information in how the formulas work.
  • The NocSouls custom formula for magical critical damage has had its INT divisor increased from 10 to 15.
  • Barspell magic now provides a custom magic defense bonus to players above 500 enhancing magic. For each point of enhancing magic above 500, the targeted players will gain one point of magic defense bonus.

Avatars

  • The base attack and magic bonus multiplier has been reduced by ~30%.
  • The base accuracy and magic accuracy bonus multiplier has been reduced ~40%.
  • The base status multiplier has been reduced from ~30%.
  • With the addition of regen and refresh augments, the bonus Regen and Refresh bonuses have been removed from avatars.
  • A base regain bonus has been added of +25 TP/tick (+10 * player_tp_multipler). This bonus is not affected by level.
  • The base scaling elemental resistances and absorbs have been capped at 25% and 5%.
    • Resistances are calculated at 10 + level / 2.
    • Absorbs are calculated at 1 + level / 10.
  • The 500% HP and MP bonuses have been reduced from avatars, however, their base HP per level has been slightly increased. This addresses an issue where monsters could dispel the HP buff from the avatar.
  • At post-99 levels, the custom bonuses have been removed as avatars now properly scale with their level.
  • Avatars now have a base 5% max HP/tick regen cap. This is increased to 10% for Titan.
    • For example, if Ifrit has 5000 health, regen caps at +250/tick.
    • The Regen Cap has been added to !petstats.
  • Titan has gained an additional bonus to enmity as the avatar ’tank pet’.
  • Spirits (Fire Spirit, etc.) no longer gain the physical damage resistance and bonus stats of Avatars.

Avatar Favors

  • Carbuncle’s Favor Regen bonus has been updated from summoning skill * 0.10 to summoning skill * 0.05.

Avatar Blood Pacts

Various avatar blood pacts now implement their proper TP modifiers.

  • TP_DMG_BONUS increases the final damage calculation based on fTP at 1000, 2000, and 3000.
  • TP_DMG_VARIES varies base damage based on TP at >1000, 1000, 2000, and 3000.
  • TP_CRIT_VARIES increases both critical hit rate and damage of skills based on TP at 1000, 2000, and 3000.
  • TP_ACC_VARIES increases accuracy of skills based on TP at 1000, 2000, and 3000.

In addition, the following generalities have been made:

  • Elemental magic (Fire II, Thunder IV, etc.) now have a base damage aligned with the base damage of ‘monster cast’ magic, not player cast magic (it’s higher in almost all cases).
  • All merit magical blood pacts are now aligned to the formulas from retail and have had their TP bonus increased from +40 to +400 per merit point to align with the new 1000-based TP system.
  • All TP check now include their proper TP_BONUS modifier check from gear and status effects, capping at 3000 TP.
    • TP Bonus has been added to !petstats.
  • Physical blood pacts now have the proper +100 accuracy bonus on first hit.
  • Magical blood pacts, which inherit from monster abilities, no longer apply Magic Attack Bonus in two separate phases. Magic Attack Bonus is now applied only in the “bonuses”, not to the base damage calculation.
    • This also addresses several monster abilities that were getting double buffed.

Additional observations:

  • With the addition of the TP enhancements, blood pacts feel a bit more like weaponskills, with there being sometimes significant damage differences between 1000 TP and 3000 TP.
  • Those blood pacts with damage bonuses can feel much more potent than those with accuracy bonuses; however, those with accuracy extremely high hit rates against higher level targets.

General

  • The logic controlling when a monster uses TP abilities has been updated to closer reflect the behaviors on retail.
    • At any HP level, once monsters hit 3000 TP, they will use one of their abilities.
    • At varying HP levels (depending on the monster family and type), monsters will have a higher chance to use TP abilities at lower TP levels (monsters become panicked the lower their HP).
    • The overall chance of a monster using a TP ability has been slightly reduced when they hit 1000 TP.
    • The duration between when a monster is first engaged and uses their first TP ability has been increased.

  • The poroggo ability Providence now properly grants Enwater.
  • The caturae ability Tabbiyaa Gambit now properly targets the caster, not the player.

Some treasure caskets are locked and require players to solve puzzles to open them.

Known Issues and Works In Progress

  • As per the maintenance, the Auctioneer is Disabled as we re-tune quantities and availability of certain items. Our goal is to make more commonly requested items easier to obtain, such as crafting materials and leveling gear, while reducing some of the clutter from the store.

Tip

Don’t forget: after completing the Stand In The Fire BCNM, speak with the Event Moogle to receive your bonus price!

Personal Loot Updates

Personal loot is any loot awarded directly to the player rather than entering the treasure pool. We use this for several currency rewards. An issue that some players face is having full inventories or using inventory management plugins that drop items when items hit the inventory too quickly.

To address this, personal loot is now sent to Makel-Pakel (the Battlefield NPC) located in !relax. Makel-Pakel will inform you of your totals and send them to your delivery box for pickup. Using the delivery box ensures that player inventories and treasure pool management plugins can’t accidently cause items to be lost.

This applies to:

  • Daily Hunts (alexandrite and tanzanite jewels)
  • Reisenjima Henge medals (beastmen and kindred medals)
  • Empyrean upgrade currency (riftcinder, riftdross, heavy medal, riftborn boulders)
  • Daily BCNM rewards (alexandrite, tanzanite jewels, and training manuals)
  • Heroics unlock quest caches (luminium ore, midrium ore, and kaolin)

New Command - !getdeliveries

Players can use the !getdeliveries to see what’s currently pending delivery. This will display items and quantities of what Makel-Pakel can deliver once you return to town.

Quality of Life Updates

These updates focus around the NPCs and their actions around the !relax area–Western Adoulin’s Platea Triumphus. The aim is reduce the concentration of NPCs in the area to increase load time and FPS performance in the area.

  • In addition to managing personal loot deliveries, Makel-Pakel now provides players with their Dynamis Divergence lockout timers. He’ll continue providing Daily BCNM lockouts, the lockout durations, and removing stray battlefield effects from players.
  • Hestefa is on vacation to go find better armor. Trystol now carries artifact, relic, and empyrean starter armors. The prices for the relic and empyraen starter armors have been reduced.
  • Zezarn, Lakeria, and Maforne have moved to (K-10) in Western Adoulin.

These updates focus around the various REMA weapon upgrade trials:

  • Magian Master now provides the proper “Obtained: {weapon}” client text for our non-native English client players.
  • Magian Moogle TJ now provides the proper “Obtained: {weapon}” client text for our non-native English client players.

    • Stage III - 500 riftborn boulders to 495 riftborn boulders (5 stacks)
  • Oboro’s dialog has been updated to provide messaging when players trade an invalid combination.

Heroics Updates

  • UPDATE The following Peacekeepers mission targets have been adjusted.
    • Corrupted Altana -> Hades (tier 5 Reisenjima Henge)
    • Ulr of Dark -> Lilith (tier 5 Reisenjima Henge) The infamy reward for this mission has been reduced from 65 to 60 to be in line with other fights of this challenge level.
Tip

Players who are already tagged to fight these targets will get credit from the new target.

June 2020

14 June

Rather than actual update notes, I wanted to share with you a bit of what we’ve been working on for the past few weeks. There’s a lot going on!

Rescaling

First off, the big one–we’re working on rescaling the server. Our current scaling, while exciting, has limited how we can grow the server and create new content. We’ve been listening to feedback the past few months from the community and reached out to many of you regarding wants and needs.

At a high level, here’s the gist:

  • We’ve hit the caps of many attributes, HP modifiers, and other monster traits. We can’t create beefier monsters at this point. That makes it harder to create new tiers of content.

  • Hitting max damage is now a minimium, not a maximum for players, again, making it difficult to create more scaled content and, for some classes, making it difficult to compete compared to the meta. With the 99999 and 65535 caps in place, we have some classes and abilities hitting upwards of 500-600k before the caps are put into place and others just brush the caps–meaning that higher tier content, that damage drop off is far more severe for some jobs.

  • Once players reach a certain point, new gear and accessories are of little value because of stat inflation. This reduces the value of higher tiers of gear and content, such as the upcoming Escha Ru’Aun, Ambuscade-era gear, and Unity-era gear.

  • Adding new things… such as Trusts… are extremely difficult to scale and be worthwhile to players when everything is at “max.”

To that end, we’ve been working hard on a proper rebalance with several things in mind. This isn’t something we’re doing lightly or without a lot of testing and research.

  • Overall challenge of current content should remain consistent. The number of swings, spells, and average time per encounter should be about the same. The scaling isn’t just on players, but on monsters as well.
  • Entry-level content challenges, such as Reisenjima Henge, open world encounters, and such, should be a bit easier to help new players get started.
  • Mid-tier and high-tier Heroics content should be about the same challenge or a bit more difficult.
  • With aligned monster scaling, our aim is also to, unless intentional (via mechanics), to reduce the times that monsters do outrageous amounts of damage and instantly one shot players.
  • Gear upgrades should matter more. Players should feel the difference when equipping a significantly stronger piece of gear or weapon.
  • Auto attack damage should, again, be part of the damage dealing equation. Not “retail era” levels of auto attack, but enough it should be considered as part of the kit.
  • Enhancing abilities, such as bard songs, corsair rolls, Impact, Dia/Bio, elemental resists, Absorb-*, and other buffs should add significant value and be desired members of a party.
  • At this time, augments are not changing. We had the rescaling in mind when we last reworked augments and, for now, their scaling remains appropriate. That said, with the changes, some players may be rethinking their augmenting choices.

A few things, off the top, that we’re currently working on:

  • re-evaluating TP generation overall–for players and monsters–and how we keep the speed of combat that is key to our community without making it “let’s spam 3K WS over and over and over for hours”.
  • adjusting weapon skills overall by separating out the “server bonus” and adjusting physical, magical, and ranged weaponskills independently for smoother growth.
  • evaluating key aspects of some jobs, such as Scholar Helixes, and providing benefits to those aspects while the player is playing it as the main job.
  • evaluating pet jobs overall both from a risk and rewards aspect as well as evaluating potential based on the ‘whole job’, not just the player OR the pet.
  • reviewing our custom enhancements to certain jobs and abilities to see if they’re still aligned or need adjusted.
  • and more!

Currently, we have an awesome team made up not only of our community staff, but also community members (our new #beta-team–if you’re interested in joining, reach out and let’s chat) providing feedback, testing content, and helping us brainstorm ideas. They’ve been working for almost a month testing content and scaling changes daily.

We’re getting close to rolling this out and I anticipate that we’ll likely be changing things as we go–it’s hard to anticipate every situation and experience, but we’re doing our best. We’re also working on some video examples of content, both solo and group play, to let people see logs and examples of how the new scaling works.

Other Things

In addition to the scaling, here’s a short list of some of the other things we’re working on:

  • personal loot updates: personal loot, such as from hunts, Heroics caches, Reisenjima Henge, etc. will now be managed by an NPC in !relax and they’ll deliver it to your delivery box on request. This aims to address the constant issues of full inventories that players experience content.
  • unlocked relic weaponskills are coming and weaponskill skill levels are being adjusted to be a bit more inline with the quested > relic > mythic > merit > empyrean progression. In addition, a few new weaponskills are going to be available to some jobs and some existing ones are being made available to different jobs.
  • a boatload of various bug fixes, item mods, and server stability updates.

Looking Ahead

With COVID and some personal issues for, well, everyone with everything that’s gone on the past few months, our roadmap is a bit of a mess right now, but we’re dedicated to pushing forward and getting new content out soon.

Here’s a glimpse at some of the near term updates:

  • SCH, NIN, and SAM master job quests are coming soon. Stories are written.
  • a new achievement system tied to the Members Portal–find and defeat all those hidden NMs to earn points and top the boards!
  • Escha Ru’Aun is complete and ready to rollout (waiting on a few dependencies)
  • Crafting quests from 100 to 110 – requires some systemic changes that don’t exist on private servers, but research and work is almost done.

Thank you to our amazing community and our testing team. I’m looking forward to sharing these updates with everyone in the near future.

Enmity Cleanup

The following updates have been made to enmity and claim controls to better align to player expectiations and retail.

  • Claim status is now validated each combat tick (3 seconds).
  • Claims can be ‘declaimed’ (go white) if the claimer dies, disengages, changes targets, or runs out of combat range. This enforces the “1 claimed target per person” functionality of retail.
  • Multiple players in a party can each claim different mobs at the same time.
  • Player abilities that can claim now do so sooner in the logic tree.
  • Player magics that can claim now do so sooner in the logic tree and curative magic cannot claim unless it does damage.
  • Player pet area-of-effect abilities can target claimed mobs and do damage, but will no longer override the claim on them, no matter how much damage is done to the target.
  • Player weaponskills can now properly claim targets.
  • Players who kill unclaimed (white) targets, such as via AOE, will be marked as the claimer when that target dies.

Linkshells Cleanup

Several core functionalities of linkshells have been updated to better reflect retail functionality.

  • permissions to change linkshell missions can now be set by the linkshell holder.
    • /lsmes level ls - changable by linkshell holder
    • /lsmes level ps - changable by pearlsack holder
    • /lsmes level all - changable by all
  • dropping a linkshell group now properly kicks and breaks the pearls/sacks of all equipped members. Offline members receive a message next time they log in or try to equip it.
  • management of linkshells requires the shell to be in “linkshell slot 1”; including being able to promote from pearl to sack for other players.
  • players can equip linkshells that are located in their local inventory: mog satchels, sacks, and cases.

Timed Spawn Updates

RoZ Land Kings

The Land Kings have been updated to have a more reliable respawn timer rather than the variable windows. This allows both NQ and HQ to be up at the same time for those farming relic updates and bypasses the current ‘modern’ system that could cause the windows for an HQ to be anywhere from an hour to three days.

  • The NQ versions, Behemoth, Fafnir, and Adamantoise, are now on a fixed 1 hour respawn time.
  • The HQ versions, King Behemoth, Nidhogg, and Aspidochelone, are now on a fixed 2 hour respawn time.
  • The QM (???) no longer disappears when either version of the land kings are active.
  • Players can still force spawn either version using the QM (???) and proper spawn item.

RoZ Beastman Kings

The Beastman Kings have been updated to have the same logic for all three–a 20% chance to immediately spawn the HQ, or a guaranteed spawn of the HQ after more than 6 NQ defeats.

  • The NQ versions, Orcish Overlord, Yagudo Avatar, and Diamond Quadav, are now on a fixed 1 hour respawn timer.
  • The NQ versions have a 20% chance to spawn the HQ version on death; if defeated more than 6 times, that chance increases to 100% chance.
  • The HQ versions, Overlord Bakgodek, Tzee Xicu the Manifest, and Za’Dha Adamantking, will appear immediately after the NQ despawns if the pop chance is successful, similar to relic upgrade NMs.
  • The stats and levels of the NQ versions have been given NM flags, stats, and attributes. They are now level 85-95.
  • The HQ versions can no longer freely respawn.

  • Since the last update, several hidden words have been found! Congrats everyone! The Spring Break wiki page has been updated with the recent finds.
  • Three words remain hidden from the last update! Here’s the current hints:
    • If you’re leveling up, you could use some [_______]. (7 letters, two words)
    • Some enjoy being out in this during the spring time. (5 letters, a place)
    • When you didn’t get what you wanted, there’s an item that allows you to [_______]. (7 letters, two words)
  • Four new words have been added. Here’s a few hints:
    • Don’t lose your head, it’s just a shield.
    • Ribbit… ribbit…
      • Tifa approves of your choices.
      • Looks evil, but not as many tenticles as expected.

  • BUG Saboteur now properly only applies a +25% duration bonus to Enfeebling Magic against NMs (per BGWiki) instead of 100%. Non-NM targets are still affected by the bonus +100%.

Zone Closures

As our resources are a bit limited during this transition to the cloud hosting and while we figure out our resource needs, we’ve decided to close several unused/unuseful zones to free up system resources.

These zones mainly are either a) unimplemented at this time or b) unused/unnecessary. Many of the boat rides were either broken or took forever (hours) and are simply unnecessary.

  • The boats between Mhaura and Al Zahbi (use !tele whitegate)
  • The boats between Nashmau and Al Zahbi (use !tele nashmau)
  • The boat between Mhaura and Selbina (use Explorer Moogles)
  • The boat between the islands of Bibiki Bay (the Manaclipper) (trade 10,000gil to Rhalo Davigoh or Rahi Sakeawo to fast travel)
  • The airships between the main capitals and Jeuno (use !tele jeuno|sandy|windy|bastok)
  • Reisenjima Sanctorium (zone not open yet)
  • Walk of Echoes [P1] and Walk of Echoes [P2] (zones not open yet)
  • Celennia Memorial Library (zone now closed)

This frees up 15 “zones” from running and should ease the load on the zone server.

Miscellaneous

  • BUG (hotfix) Several AOE job abilities have been fixed to no longer show the purple system message that the ability is not available yet. This includes: Blood Rage, Rampart, Benediction, Conspirator, Warcry, Wild Card, and Sacrosanctity.
  • BUG (hotfix) Addressed an issue with Provoke increasing enmity, but not properly claiming a target on use.

Retail Client Update - March 2020

We’ve updated the client to the retail March 2020 version. This will require a client update for players.

mar 2020 version update

For a refresher on how to update your client, click here. In Check Files and/or when typing /ver in game, the new version number should be 30200304_3 or higher.

Warning

As this adds two new zones, this is a required update for players.

New Servers and IP

Due to moving and needing to crate/move the server racks, Nocturnal Souls has been moved into a private cloud host. With this comes new IP addresses.

During this maintenance, we’ll be shifting our DNS entries, however, for those with internet providers with long DNS caches, the new IP address is 216.117.170.162.

Those wanting to update their Ashita or Windower can use the direct IP address in the event that they cannot resolve the name.

This can be done by updating your Ashita or Windower configuration with the following:

  • Old: --server connect.nocturnalsouls.net
  • New: --server 216.117.170.162

For players with internet providers that have rapid DNS updates, no change may be necessary–it may be updated by the time servers come back up!

This is a new environment for us and we’ll be learning the ins and outs of it as we go. The aim is to get services up as soon as possible for players during the move rather than going offline for 60-90 days. Please be patient as we’ll be monitoring performance and making adjustments as quickly as we can.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE Paralysis is now checked BEFORE a player uses an ability to prevent the ability from firing the animation and going on cooldown without it actually being used. This is a custom QoL enhancement.
  • UPDATE Western Adoulin (!relax) has had its music changed (aka: Derahine is tired of the folksy theme for a while).
  • UPDATE The “healing tick rate” has been reset to 10 from 3 as it was causing some overflow issues for certain status effects.
  • BUG Address issue where gil splits for treasure chests/coffers would not properly split between party/alliance.

  • UPDATE Myrkr now removes the ‘Accuracy Down’ debuff.
  • UPDATE The “bonus” to avatars while Avatar’s Favor is active has been entirely removed. It was only +10 MAB and +30 MACC as the Accuracy +%, Attack +%, and Defense +% were no longer working and would not properly reapply if pets were recast while Favor was active.
  • UPDATE Wadi Leeches in Dangruf Wadi have been updated to freely spawn (instead of being fished up) so players can complete the GoV Page #3. There are 7 spawn points around G-11 for these leeches (the original 30+ spawn points was changed on retail some time ago).

Siren Updates

Siren’s abilities have been updated to align with retail now that the information has been discovered.

The following skill chain attributes have been assigned to Siren’s physical blood pacts.

Blood Pact SC 1 SC 2
Welt Scission
Roundhouse Detonation
Hysteric Assault Fragmentation Transfixion
  • Hysteric Assault is now Piercing damage instead Slashing damage.
  • Hysteric Assault now has a dSTAT of DEX and INT, not DEX and STR.
  • Hysteric Assault works similar to Sanguine Blade and can drain HP from Undead-type enemies.
  • Sonic Buffet dispel effect procs regardless of the ability doing damage.
  • Roundhouse is now Blunt damage instead of Slashing damage.
  • Lunatic Voice’s unresisted duration for silence caps at 90 seconds instead of 180 seconds.
  • Bitter Elegy’s potency is a 50% slow, up from 35.10% (matching Slow II).

In addition, Siren now properly responds to player weaponskills like other avatars for players who have this functionality enabled.

Blue Magic Updates

The following magical-based blue magic spells now have their proper elemental attributes:

  • 1000 Needles, Light
  • Anvil Lightning, Lightning
  • Blastbomb, Fire
  • Blazing Bound, Fire
  • Blinding Flugor, Fire
  • Blitzstrahl, Lightning
  • Blood Drain, Dark
  • Blood Saber, Dark
  • Cesspool, Water
  • Charged Whisker, Lightning
  • Corrosive Ooze, Water
  • Death Ray, Water
  • Diffusion Ray, Light
  • Eyes on Me, Dark
  • Flying Hip Press, Wind
  • Uproot, Light

Empyrean Armor Updates

The empyrean armor modifiers have been added for the following sets:

  • Warrior: Blood Rage duration, Restraint+

    • The “Augments Double Attack” gearset bonus has been verified.
  • Monk: “Augments Impetus”, Footwork+

    • The “Augments Kick Attacks” gearset bonus has been verified.
  • White Mage: “Divine Veil+”, Regen Duration+, Auspice+, Healing Magic Cast Time -%

    • The “Augments Elemental Resistance Spells” has been verified (barspells).
  • Black Mage: Elemental Magic Cast Time -%, Mana Wall +%

    • The “Augments Conserve MP” gearset bonus has not been added as, at this time, it is not possible and if was, would be wildly overpowered on our server.
  • Red Mage: Enfeebling Magic Cast Time -%, Saboteur+

    • The “Augments Composure effect” has not been added as, at this time, it’s not possible and, in testing, would be extremely difficult to gearswap as set bonuses take 1-2 ticks (3-6 seconds) to activate.
  • Thief: Despoil+

    • The “Augments Triple Attack” gearset bonus has been verified.
  • Paladin: Divine Emblem+

    • The “Occ. absorbs damage taken.” gearset bonus has been verified.
    • The “Mitigates dmg. taken based on enmity.” modifier will not be added as there isn’t a way to constantly adjust mitigation based on enmity and with our enmity bonuses, this effect would be exceptionally overpowered.
  • Dark Knight: Dread Spikes Potency+, “Absorb TP”+, Nether Void+

    • The “Attack occassionally varies with HP” gearset bonus has been added; it provides a 1% chance, up to 5% that your attack value is increased for that attack round based on your HP%. example: on a proc, if you have 1000 attack and 95% hp, you’d gain 95% attack or +950 attack for that attack round.
  • Bard: Song Recast Delay Reduction

    • The “Augments Songs” gearset bonus will not be added at this time as DSP does not have ’elements’ for songs; this will be added at a later time.
  • Ranger: Double Shot Enmity Reduction

    • The “Augments Double Shot” gearset bonus has been verified.
    • “True Shot” bonuses not implemented as distance correction does not exist in DSP.
    • “Enhanced Unlimited Shot” bonuses not implemented as distance correction does not exist in DSP.
    • “Enhances Bounty Shot” bonuses not implemented as treasure hunter does not work on the proc system in DSP.
  • Samurai: Sekkanoki TP Bonus, Conserve TP, Sengikori +%

    • The “Augments Zanshin Effect” gearset bonus has been verified.
  • Ninja: Futae+

    • The “Augments Dual Wield” gearset bonus has been verified.

Magic Cleanup

Similar to our cleanup last update for weaponskills, we’ve cleaned up all of the player magic skill using the DSP flag for USE_OLD_MAGIC_DAMAGE formulas.

  • For almost all spells, nothing has changed, the update simply removes the logic fork. All spells are aligned with the following V and M values found at https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Magic_Damage#Calculating_D. Only a handful of spells had incorrect values.

    • Stone II’s M200 was 1 instead of 0.
    • Fire IV’s V200 was 1200 instead of 1195.
    • Blizzard IV’s V200 was 1205 instead of 1210.
    • Thunder IV’s V200 was 1230 instead of 1225.
    • Firaga III’s V200 was 1300 instead of 1295.
    • Blizzaga III’s V200 was 1315 instead of 1310.
    • Thundaga III’s V200 was 1330 instead of 1325.
  • Comet’s missing “successive use enhances potency” has been added; Comet now inflicts a dark magic damage reduction on the target, similar to -ja spells.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE (hotfix) Magian Mog AJ now provides better feedback when trying to start, change, or cancel trials.
  • UPDATE Added proper exit locations for Mog Houses in Eastern and Western Adoulin.
  • UPDATE Added missing Moogle and Mog House functionality to the Eastern Adoulin Mog House.
  • UPDATE The Yantok +3 has been removed from Ash Dragon’s loot table as it has no purpose/value.
  • UPDATE The Poroggos now have their proper abilities and animations (for both forms); new skills have been added and Frog Chorus can now only be used by NMs.
  • UPDATE The Porxies now have their proper abilities and animations and no longer use (annoying) Pixie abilities.
  • UPDATE The Formors have had their abilities reviewed and several abilities that did not do damage have been fixed.
  • UPDATE The all damage enmity bonus for Paladin’s Divine Emblem has been reduced from +250% to +100% with increases from the Chevalier’s equipment providing further increases.
  • UPDATE Players who get stuck with the battlefield status effect (usually caused by a disconnect or entering a BCNM too quickly while multiboxing), can now have it removed by Makel-Pakel in !relax.
  • BUG (hotfix) Addressed an issue where players could use Nexus Capes to enter the Abyssea-Empyrean Paradox.
  • BUG (hotfix) Addressed an issue where the QMs (???) for several encounters referenced ‘Sarsaok’s Horde’ instead of ‘Sarsaok’s Hoard’.
  • BUG (hotfix) Addressed an issue where the QM (???) for Maju had Maju’s name misspelt.
  • BUG (hotfix) Addressed an issue where the Bard song “Goddess’ Hymnus” did not properly benefit from Song Duration Bonus gear.
  • BUG The recapping of skills for automatons now happens on activation rather than shortly delayed after activation to prevent a potential client crash when the player dies before the delay occurs.
  • BUG Activators, “Activate”, and “Deus Ex Automata” no longer “cap all skills”, but only cap automaton skills. This addresses an issue where PUPs would lose their merits and skill bonuses until their next zone in/zone out.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where Adventurer’s Dirge and Foe Sirvente would not properly flag for single-target when Pianissimo is active.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where Churano-Shurano wouldn’t provide the Magicked Astrolabe KI even if the player has enough gil. The cutscene still speaks of multiple payments, but if you have enough gil, it’ll provide the KI.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where player-to-player trades should properly account for the items in the trade window and free inventory spaces before accepting the trade.
  • BUG Addressed an issue where mobs inside of battlefields should not be granting experience points or signet-based rewards (crystals/seals).
  • BUG Bastok’s Rank 10 cutscene in Metalworks now provides the rank up rewards, mission completion, and items prior to starting the cutscene rather than at the end in the event that the cutscene freezes at “the Galka”… (those wishing to see the cutscene who cannot, YouTube it!).

Members Portal

  • UPDATE Tuned several database queries, such as auction history and item recipes, that were excessively heavy on the database.

Retail Client Update - Feburary 2020

We’ve updated the client to the retail February 2020 version. This will require a client update for players.

feb 2020 version update

For a refresher on how to update your client, click here. In Check Files and/or when typing /ver in game, the new version number should be 30200205_1 or higher.

Warning

As this adds a new summon, Siren, and new status effects, this is a required update. The server is now locked at this version and/or higher to reduce potential client crashes.

February 2020 Retail Job Update - Paladin

Paladin’s Atonement

Paladins received several updates this month focused around their ability to generate enmity and protect the group.

Players will notice a drastic change in Rampart as it’s no longer a magic shield, but an uncapped damage reduction for the group on a shorter recast. This damage reduction stacks with other types of damage reduction, such as gear, White Mage’s Sacrocanctity (for magic), Blue Mage’s Barrier Tusk, and other effects.

  • The job ability Rampart has been reworked. Rampart no longer provides a 100% resistant magic shield, but a -25% uncapped damage taken reduction. This includes all damage types: physical, magical, breath, and ranged.
    • The recast had been reduced from 300s to 180s with a 30s duration.
    • The “Rampart Recast” merit has been updated to reflect this shorter recast (4s per merit down from 10s per merit).
    • NOTE: Players using XIView or other addons for the new icons will need to update to the February version to have the new icons for Rampart.
  • The weaponskill Atonement now has a fixed enmity gain rather than being based on weaponskill damage. It now generates 300 CE and 900 VE per use, no matter how much damage it inflicts.
    • NOTE: The damage calculation formulas and caps have not changed from our custom settings.
  • The job ability Divine Emblem has had its recast reduced from 600s to 180s.
  • The job ability Shield Bash has had its recast reduced from 300s to 60s
    • The “Shield Bash Recast” merit has been updated to reflect this shorter recast (2s per merit down from 6s per merit).

In addition to the retail updates, the merit ability Fealty has undergone a custom revamp to provide a much higher magic evasion bonus and an array of base resistances.

February 2020 Retail Job Update - Summoner

Siren

Siren is here!

Summoners now have access to Siren. To add the summon to your spell list, use the !addallspells command, log out, and back into your character.

Siren is a wind-based avatar that provides single target damage and area-of-effect buffs and debuffs.

Skill Type Level Effect
Clarsach Call Astral Flow 1 Deals area-of-effect wind elemental damage.
Welt Rage 1 Deals single-target physical damage
Lunatic Voice Ward 15 Silences enemies in area of effect
Roundhouse Rage 25 Deals single-target physical damage
Katabatic Blades Ward 31 Grants “Enaero” to nearby party members
Chinook Ward 42 Grants “Aquaveil” to nearby party members
Bitter Elegy Ward 50 Inflicts “Elegy” on the target
Sonic Buffet Rage 65 Deals single-target wind elemental damage and dispels the target
Tornado II Rage 75 Deals wind elemental damage
Wind’s Blessing* Ward 88 Grants a magic shield effect to nearby party members
Hysteric Assault Rage 99 Deals three-hit single-target physical damage and drains HP

* The magic shield effect is similar to Blue Mage’s magic barrier in providing -MDT and MEVA; however, summoning skill affects both duration and potency.

The damage values are estimated at this time and we’ll be reviewing and tuning them as more information is available from retail.

Note

Due to how DSP is designed, Siren’s abilities that are not used by her as a monster do not have their proper names. This affects Welt, Roundhouse, Katabatic Blades, Chinook, and Wind’s Blessing. These abilities will show up as a ‘.’, ‘Special Attack’, or ‘#XXXX’.

In addition, if you use addons like Battlemod, Shorthand, or Shortcuts, be sure to update these to add the new skills into them.

In addition, Siren’s Favor has been added to the Avatar’s Favor effect. Siren’s Favor provides players with Wind Bonuses, Silence Resistance, Subtle Blow, and AGI.

  • Wind Accuracy/Attack/Defense (skill * 0.15)
  • Wind Resistance (skill * 0.10)
  • Silence Resistance (skill * 0.10)
  • Subtle Blow (skill * 0.15)
  • AGI (skill * 0.15)
Warning

At this time, Siren’s abilities do not skillchain as there’s not enough information on the elemental properties. We’ll be watching for this information and adding it in future updates.

New Login Point Rewards

The login point rewards have been updated for February - March 2020.

Artemis’ Bow Troll Gun
Artemis’ Bow Troll Gun
Doll Mount
Doll Mount

In addition, Rem’s Chapter pages remain available for players to spend their login points on.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE The Muddle status effect has been added. Many abilities already afflicted this ailment, but it did nothing. It’s now setup to work similar to retail and prevent players from using items.
  • UPDATE In preparation of Escha Ru’Aun, Heroics players rank 8 and higher now have access to two new items in the Heroics shop–the Amnesia Screen and Charm Buffer. Similar to the Doom and Terror Screens, these phails prevent the status effects for 2 minutes and are rare/ex, so use them strategically.
  • UPDATE The !stats command now includes information about -RDT (Ranged Damage Taken) and -BDT (Breath Damage Taken).
  • BUG The recast IDs for several abilities has been fixed and should display properly now: Curing Waltz I - V, Healing Waltz, Divine Waltz I - II, Unbridled Learning, Consume Mana, Deus Ex Automatia, Apogee. This is mostly for players using third-party addons that show recast times.
  • BUG Lorbulcrud is no longer Lorbulcrub on the monster lookup on the Members Portal.
  • BUG An issue in how “elemental damage to MP” is calculated has been resolved. This effect should cap at the cost of the spell, not just the percentage of the damage applied.

  • BUG Apex Jagils in ih Gates and Woh Gates no longer exhibit Amphiptere traits, but are again pugils (and aquans).
  • BUG Address a calculation issue in how the “Double Attack Damage+%” modifier is calculated that could cause auto attacks to do excessive damage.

Eminent Weapons

The starter weapons, Eminents, sold by Eternal Flame in Western Adoulin have been updated to match their expected stats. The stats now reflect the latent always being active (as, by retail standards, it was for when you were 1000 TP or less, which is never on our server).

  • The Eminent Baghnakhs can now be used by Dancers and has had its base damage updated.
  • The Eminent Sickle can now be used by Beastmasters and has had its base damage updated.
  • The Eminent Lance has had its base damage updated and its missing modifiers added.
  • The Eminent Staff has had incorrect jobs removed from it and its item modifiers added.
  • The Eminent Pole has had its pet modifiers added to it.
  • The Eminent Bow has had incorrect jobs removed from it and its item modifiers added.
  • The Eminent Crossbow has had its stack size fixed, incorrect jobs removed, and item modifiers added.
  • The Eminent Gun can now be used by Corsairs and has had its item modifiers added.
  • The Kaitsuburi (katana) has had its base damage updated.
  • NEW The Eminent Sachet can now be used by Summoners and provides the avatar level bonus to i115.
  • NEW The Eminent Animator can now be used by Puppetmasters and provides the automaton level bonus to i115 and +77 to base stats.

The Eminent Quiver, Bolt Quiver, and Bullet Pouch have been added and provide 99 of each of their ammo types. They can be found in !shop 6. The level 96-98 adaman versions have been removed to make room for the eminents and the eminents have retained the adaman’s 30000g price tag.

The new Eminent Sachets and Animators are sold by Eternal Flame and should help bridge the gap as people work to acquire Divinators and Sancus Sachets.

Apex Monsters

Apex monsters, typically used on retail for capacity point farming, are higher leveled mobs worth high amounts of experience points. We believe these targets are an excellent alternative for small groups looking to farm 85-99 outside of Abyssea–especially those working on New Game+ levels and looking for higher base experience point values.

  • Targets are located in many Seekers of Adoulin zones.
  • The stats and levels of these mobs are 125 - 135 with many having higher than average combat stats in line with their scaling on retail.
  • The respawn time reduced to 3 minutes.

Monster Family Updates

Several monster families/pools have been updated to reflect the proper skill usage, effects, radius/direction, and animations. For several encounters, such as Caturaes (ex: Pil), this may affect battle strategy for players.

Updates have been made to the following monster families:

  • Pygmytoise are now properly Baby Adamantoise, not Matamatas, and have their proper skill set.
  • Mantids now have their proper auto attack animations, skill sets, and the animations of many of their abilities have been fixed.
  • Drauger Skeletons now have their proper skill set list for both melee and casters.
  • Corpselights now have their proper skill set list and auto attack animations.
  • Matamatas now have their proper skill set list, animations, and resistances.
  • Caturaes have had their skills entirely revamped to closer match retail and use the correct animations.
  • Flans have had several of their skill animations, distances, and names updated to closer match retail.
  • Imps have had several of their ‘horn’ abilities updated to properly be AOEs and have the correct animations.
  • Monoceros have had several of their abilities updated to use the correct animation and distances.
  • Gargouilles now have their flying and standing attack stances and use their abilities accordingly.
  • Gallus now have their proper unique auto attack abilities, their abilities apply the correct status debuffs, and some Gallu have gained Unrelenting Brand.
  • Fluturinis and Twitheryms now have their proper skill lists and animations.

Healing Formula Cleanup

As we slowly cleanup and move away from some “era-specific” formulas, healing magic was a great place to start.

Healing magic itself was plagued by several inconsistencies between spells, powers, and the formulas themselves. We made several custom adjustments to the base power formula when the server was launched, however, never removed any of the older code, including calls to DSP’s USE_OLD_CURE_FORMULA.

Overall, players should see an increase in benefits from Healing Skill bonuses and MND/VIT at end game and more consistent growth from tier to tier as players level up.

Here’s a synopsis of how healing magic works. Most of these formulas were taking and/or adapted from current retail’s formulas. The values for constants, such as power floor , hp floor, and rate can be found there.

General

  • The 3x “Cure Power” bonus provided by the server is now applied after bonuses, not before. This aligns with how the other _POWER server settings are applied.

White Magic

The Cure line of spells has the following updated formulas.

  • Power = floor(MND + floor(VIT/2) + Healing Skill)
    • This formula is custom and increases the potency provided by players having higher MND and VIT by reducing the divisors.
  • Base = floor((power - power floor) / rate) + hp floor)
    • This formula matches modern retail.

The power floors, rates, and HP floors are aligned with retail with a few exceptions:

  • Cure I has an additional floor at 600 with a rate of 25.0 and an increased HP floor of 95 (up from 65).
  • Cure II has an additional floor at 700 with a rate of 25.0 and an increased HP floor of 165 (up from 145).
  • Cure III has an additional floor at 700 with a rate of 7.5 and an increased HP floor of 380 (up from 340).
  • Cure IV has an additonal floor at 700 with a rate of 3.0 and an increased HP floor of 660 (up from 640).
  • Cure V has an additional floor at 700 with a rate of 3.55 and an increased HP floor of 880 (up from 780).
  • Cure VI has an additional floor at 700 with a rate of 1.5 and an increased HP floor of 1050 (up from 1010).

The Cura line of spells have had the following changes. Cura’s exact formulas are not documented, but reports have them aligning closely with Cure II, III, and IV with the potency being further capped higher than Curaga based on player’s Afflatus Misery bonuses.

We’ll be reviewing Cura’s potential as it has an exceedingly long recast time, but has the potential to be much more powerful (and faster casting) than Curaga for those who favor the Afflatus Misery stance.

  • Cura is aligned, in potency, with Cure II rather than Cure I.
  • Cura II is aligned, in potency, with Cure III rather than an old formula between Cure I and Cure II.
  • Cura III is aligned, in potency, with Cure IV rather than an old formula between Cure I and Cure II.
  • Cura line spells will now wake players up when slept.
  • Cura line spells will now properly return MP to players with the “Cure To MP %” item modifier.

The Curaga line of spells have a unique power formula and far fewer skill floors than Cure and Cura spells. This means players need to use higher tiers of the spells to receive higher cure values–the effect of MND and Healing Magic skill has a much smaller effect.

  • Power = floor((3 * MND) + VIT + (3 * floor(Healing Skill/5)))
    • This formula matches modern retail.
  • Base = floor((power / 2) / rate) + hp floor)
    • This formula matches modern retail.

The power floors, rates, and HP floors are aligned with retail with a few exceptions:

  • Curaga is aligned in potency with Cure II with power floors at 70 and 125.
  • Curaga II is aligned in potency with Cure III with power floors at 160 and 190.
  • Curaga III is aligned in potency with Cure IV with power floors at 240 and 270.
  • Curaga IV is aligned in potency with Cure V with power floors at 360 and 390.
  • Curaga V is aligned in potency with Cure VI with power floors at 480 and 500.

Blue Magic

Blue Magic is unchanged at this time as the formulas were already reviewed and converted during the Blue Magic update.

Waltzes

Dancer Waltzes are unchanged as the custom formulas for main and subjob use currently align with expectations and availability of TP.

Weaponskill Formula Cleanup

While most all of our weaponskills have been modernized, as with the healing magic, we wanted to remove all of the logic forks for USE_ADOULIN_WEAPON_SKILL_CHANGES that DSP uses and ensure that the modern formulas and/or our custom values (for empyrean weapons) were being used.

In that, all weaponskills have been reviewed and the code tidied up. This is mostly a housekeeping, however, we did find and correct the following:

  • Stardiver’s Critical Hit Evasion Down effect was being added to the monster, but no such script for the effect existed. The effect script has been added.
  • Tornado Kick reflected a two-hit weaponskill whereas it’s now a three-hit weaponskill.
  • Sunburst and Starburst did not properly “randomize” between being light or dark elemental damage.
  • Trueflight’s 2000 TP and 3000 TP values were incorrect. Increased from 6.39 and 9.39 to 6.492 and 9.672 respectively.
  • Vidohunir’s Magic Defense Down effect had a TP-variable duration. It should be fixed at 60 seconds.
  • Shockwave would wake monsters slept by higher version of Sleep and Lullaby instead of simply not applying its version of Sleep.
  • Rudra’s Storm’s Gravity effect was -50% instead of -26% movement speed.

In addition, as discussed in a previous update, we’ve added “status effect” messages for when a weaponskill lands its additional effect. This is a non-retail behavior and added as a qualify of life enhancement for the community.

This update applies to the following weaponskills:

  • Great Katana: Tachi: Ageha, Tachi: Gekko, Tachi: Hobaku, Tachi: Kasha, Tachi: Yukikaze
  • Katana: Blade: Kamu, Blade: Metsu, Blade: Retsu, Blade: Yu
  • Great Axe: Armor Break, Shield Break, Ukko’s Fury, Metatron Torment, Weapon Break
  • Great Sword: Herculean Slash
  • Axe: Bora Axe, Onslaught, Smash Axe
  • Club: Brainshaker, Randgrith, Skullbreaker, Flash Nova
  • Sword: Death Blossom, Flat Blade
  • Marksmanship: Sniper Shot, Numbing Shot
  • Scythe: Guillotine, Infernal Scythe, Nightmare Scythe
  • Polearm: Leg Sweep
  • Staff: Omniscience, Shattersoul, Vidohunir, Gate of Tartarus, Garland of Bliss
  • Dagger: Pyrrhic Kleos, Rudra’s Storm, Shadowstitch, Exenterator, Mordent Rime, Viper Bite, Wasp Sting
  • Hand-to-Hand: Shijin Spiral, Shoulder Tackle

The following weaponskills did NOT get their status effect messages because they’re either AOE (and it would be log spammy) or they apply multiple effects:

  • Shockwave
  • Full Break
  • Tartarus Torpor
  • Uriel Blade
  • Glory Slash
Note

We’re aware that some say “{mob} is afflicted by {effect}” and others “{mob} is {effect}”. We’re looking into this and, at this time, figured being informed of the effect was more important than the exact wording.

Miscellaneous

  • BUG Addressed a critical error where weather-based latents would cause a zone crash when players with these effects left the zone. This was caused by the latent trying to determine the weather in the NEXT zone and being unable to as each of our zones are unique servers.
    • This issue primarly affected those playing scholar with the Weather: effects on their gear.
  • UPDATE Adjusted the 27 January DSP patch for synthesis success rates from success = 0.95 - (levelDiff / 10) back to our custom success = 0.95 - (levelDiff / 100) to allow players to successfully craft upwards of 10-15 levels above their range and reach the level 115+ recipes.
  • UPDATE Adjusted Garuda’s Whispering Wind’s healing potency from 16 + (pet Level * 2.5) to (200 + (pet Level * 2.5)) * (tp/250) to be scaled similar to Carbuncle and Leviathan’s healing abilities (Leviathan’s Spring Water is still the most potent).
  • BUG Updated Darrcuiln’s respawn time to reflect 60 minutes on the members portal (it’s been 60 minutes for about a year now).

Winter Celebration is Complete!

The Winter Celebration is over until next year. Daily BCNMs have reverted to 12 hour lockouts and the Holiday Cheer bonuses have been removed. Thanks to everyone who participated!

The next seasonal event, Spring Break, is due in late March 2020.

Blue Magic Updates

Blue Magic spells that apply status effects normally broken by damage have been updated to properly apply their damage and the status effect. Previously, if the effect was applied to the target, the damage would not show up. This primarily applies to spells that inflict Sleep, Bind, and Petrification.

  • Entomb (petrification)
  • Ice Break (bind)
  • Pinecone Bomb (sleep)
  • Regurgitation (bind)
Note

The retail functionality doesn’t show whether or not the secondary effect takes effect (e.g. Sub-Zero Smash informing the player that the paralyze effect landed). It only shows when the effect fades.

We are testing with these four abilities showing both the damage and the effect landing (no message would mean a resist).

We are reviewing whether or not to change this as a qualify of life enhancement so that all blue magic spells (and potentially even weaponskills) show their secondary effect messages to better inform players when these land. We’ll make a decision in a future update.

Server Notices

In today’s update, the “{player} reached {job} 99!” system message has been disabled.

With continued community growth and members rapidly leveling up via the New Game+ system, the amount of server spam was getting a bit out of hand.

The new player welcome and player login messages will remain as we feel they are important for community awareness and conversation.

Automaton AI Updates

The team’s spent the past week focusing on addressing some of the instability some automaton actions. Our testing has narrowed down the following:

  • The ‘stretchy’ effect is client side for players and is caused by the system not properly handling the “Ready”–the charge up–animation canceling half way.
  • The effect can be easily replicated by constantly interrupted an automaton’s weaponskill.
  • The effect grows worse and worse as it happens and as the automaton moves about in the world.

With that, we’ve implemented several updates to help counter this, including:

  • Updating the frequency in which automatons are re-sync’d with their masters and their ’look’ is re-evaluated.
  • Updating the frequency in which automatons positions are evaluated–this is a major benefit in keeping automatons NEAR players rather than them lagging behind and getting stuck on the environment due to the faster player runspeed.
  • Updating the default ‘disengage’ animation to “none” earlier in the packet flow.
  • Updating the skill check for automaton abilities to test for things that can prevent actions, such as Amnesia, Terror, Stun, and Sleep so automatons don’t try to ‘ready’ during these effects.
  • Updating an edge case where the automaton no longer has a master and gets stuck. In this condition, the automaton will die and the puppetmaster can resummon it.

These updates do not address the stretchy effect in all cases; however, players should notice that automatons fix themselves during their next TP abilities or engage and, even when stretchy, the chance of client crash is extremely reduced.

We will continue evaluating automaton behavior in an effort to provide as smooth of experience as possible for players.

Item Usage Restrictions

Many items that have item usage checks, such as inventory full checks, have been updated system wide to properly handle these checks.

This includes:

  • food items verifying whether or not players are already full or can consume that type of food,
  • ammo bag/toolbag items verifying proper inventory space,
  • usable items verifying zone, status effect, or other requirements,
  • updates specific to Nexus Cape to properly provide an error if teleport is not possible rather than teleporting the player to their current location.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE Re-added the Tutelary and Primacy Plans to The Zilarts encounter in Reisenjima Henge for those interested in creating the Kam’lamaut Sword and Shield via synergy.
  • UPDATE Reduced the cooldown for the /yell command for players to chat between city zones from 30s to 5s as an alternatie to the global linkshell.
  • BUG Update the Chariot, Empress, and Emperor Bands (dedication rings) to have their proper 5 second usage time, not 15 seconds. (thanks Webjester!)
  • BUG Address an issue where the Trial Size avatar fights would have the incorrect cutscene on a successful first run.
  • BUG Address an issue where some players could send linkshell messages to non-existant characters causing the zone to crash.
  • BUG Address an issue where some players could attempt to force spawn a Trust and cause the zone to crash.
  • BUG Address an issue where Poison IV-V and Poisonga III-V cast by monsters would not properly calculate the damage and would result in doing no damage.

Dynamis Divergence Updates

Due to the intense amount of packets players receive during some encounters, such as pulling 4-5 statues in Divergence (each spawning 5 mobs), this can cause some players’ clients to become unresponsive or lagged out while the client processes all of the new incoming effects, spell casts, battle logic, and such for 15-25 newly spawned mobs on top of them.

Part of this is self-inflicted as the game client was never designed for combat to be as fast as it is on Nocturnal Souls. We’re looking at various methods to help address this in high stakes areas such as Divergence and will be testing various methodologies over the coming weeks.

  • UPDATE Tombstone, Idols, Images, and Statues no longer freely cast their buffs while unengaged (and no longer generate log or packets for them)
  • UPDATE Two impish statues have been moved that were near the Nightmare Wellspring in Divergence - Jeuno to give more room for players to fight the Disjointed (and no longer generate mob update/status packets while engaged with the Disjointed).
  • UPDATE Due to the congested areas of Dynamis - Jeuno, the Impish Statues buff ranges have been reduced from 15y to 10y (and generate fewer spell buff and status effect packets).
  • UPDATE The Disjointed Mithra’s shadow clones will no longer constantly measure combat range from the target and teleport to melee range, but instead will fight like other Ninjas and stick to max TP/Ninjutsu range (and removes the distance check and mob position packets during the fight).

Moogle Madness!

Ephemeral Moogles

The Ephemeral Moogles have been updated to reflect their retail functionality for crystal storage.

Players can store and retrieve crystals and clusters from the moogles at the crafting guilds in Bastok Markets, Bastok Mines, Northern San d’Oria, Southern San d’Oria, Windurst Waters, and Windurst Woods. For those who are frequent crafters, this should free up considerable inventory space.

Moogle Storage Log

Players can see their stored crystals under Status > Currencies. Unlike what the moogle says, players can store up to 65000 crystals, not 5000.

Crystal Currency Log

As they are no longer relevant (and the events do not exist in these zones), the Ephemeral Moogles have been removed from !craft and the Mog Garden.

Festive Moogles

The Festive Moogles have been added to Port San d’Oria, Port Bastok, and Port Windurst. These moogles can provide players with various bonuses and items unlocked through in-game events and trades, such as the Mog Pells.

For now, these Moogles can players a replacement destrier beret or chocobo shirt if they misplace theirs. There’s more rewards come with these in future updates.

Adjustments to Monster Respawn Rates

Approximately 1250 unique monster groups across nearly all zones have been updated to respawn on a 300s interval instead of 960s and higher to better align to the retail respawn rates and the combat speed of the community.

The aim of this change is smooth out heavily populated experience camps and make other camps more viable with the faster respawns. This will also make farming some materials, such as augments, easier with faster respawns.

Miscellaneous

  • UPDATE (hotfix) Adjusted the region around the northern Nyzul Staging Point doorway to make it easier to open.
  • UPDATE (hotfix) Adjusted the retaliation effect of Dazzling Dolores in Reisenjima to use the proper subsequent ability.
  • UPDATE (hotfix) Removed the Beseiged effect granted to players during Beseiged; it was purely decorative and plays no role in whether or not players can participate in the fights.
  • UPDATE (hotfix) Updated script for Corrosive Ooze from slugs to have the proper name and trigger when used by these monsters.
  • UPDATE Lowered the values of PARALYZERES granted to many level 100+ encounters to make it easier for properly potent Paralyze effects to land and proc on these encounters.
  • UPDATE The amount of rank points awarded through crystal trades now better align to modern retail (no more endless stacks).
  • UPDATE The !telelist command now uses the standard custom teleport animation.
  • UPDATE Goblin Footprints (rewatching cutscenes) wired up in Garlaige Citadel, La Theine Plateau, Maze of Shakhrami, Meriphataud Mountains, North and South Gustaberg, Ro’Maeve, Bostaunieux Oubliette, and Castle Zvahl Keep. (thanks Kain!)

  • UPDATE The dark knight job unlock quest, Blade of Darkness, now matches retail–players only need to defeat 100 monsters instead of 200.
  • UPDATE The Ash Dragon NM in Ifrit’s Cauldron now respawns at 24 hour increments instead of a 3-5 real world day window.
  • BUG Reduced the respawn time of acuex in Cirdas Caverns from 60 minutes to 5 minutes.

    • Shell I - 24/256 -> 27/256 (~11%)
    • Shell II - 36/256 -> 42/256 (~16%)
    • Shell III - 48/256 -> 56/256 (~22%)

Experience Point Tables and Ramping

The Experience Point tables have been updated to match current retail and “Incredibly Easy Prey” mobs have been added.

Overall, this increases the maximum potential base experience points a player can receive from a battle to the 1500xp limit (up from 800xp) at level 99 and adds several tiers of monsters in the IEP range that now grant experience points that did not before.

Note

As this means that “Incredibly Easy Prey” mobs now con, players may find some mobs that are aggro that didn’t used to be. 👿
